Workforce

With workforce being such a critical aspect to the economic recovery of the pandemic, it was clear that Henry County had the training and programs available to help our businesses survive.  With the county’s main industries being manufacturing and agriculture, our resources to upskill and train our youth to become prepared to take over for our aging workforce remains a top priority.  Henry County is fortunate to have both Four County Career Center and Northwest State Community College in our own backyard.  Both offer the training and skills to create a pipeline of future workforce for our businesses.  There is also access to Custom Training Solutions, a division of Northwest State Community College, offering custom training programs and courses to help businesses stay competitive and keep their employees upskilled in their sector.  Henry County also has the Northwest Ohio Learning Center for Manufacturing Sciences, located within Automatic Feed’s headquarters. The facility serves as the technology learning center for a partnership formed between Automatic Feed, Northwest State Community College and Napoleon Area schools to promote manufacturing in the area.  Henry County’s local OhioMeansJob office offers various services to the public and businesses in meeting their employment needs.  Whether job postings, application and resume on-site collection, pre-screening and interviewing, or skill testing and training.  Our local OMJ office serves as a one-stop shop for workforce resources.  Through the state OMJ program, our local office also offers an On-the-Job Training program to help employers hire new employees and to train them in the specific skills they need to help the business thrive. The employer is reimbursed a percentage of the trainee’s regular wages during the training period, not to exceed $8,000.   To continue to upskill our current workforce, the local OMJ office also provides Incumbent Worker Training, designed to meet the needs of an employer to retain a skilled workforce or avert the need to lay off employees by assisting the workers in obtaining the skills necessary to maintain employment and increase the opportunity for promotions. An employee should be employed for at least six months to be eligible for incumbent worker training.  These institutes and programs help feed into some of our large employers here in Henry County.  A plus when promoting the workforce and training climate in our county to potential new businesses.
